The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba Alkali, during his familiarization tour to Edo State Police Command in August pleaded with police officers to be patient as the proposed salary increment promised by President Muhammadu Buhari will soon be actualized.
The IGP appealed to officers and men of the Command to keep their hope alive over the proposed review of salaries, saying it can only be delayed but it will surely materialise.
During an interactive session with the officers of the Command, the police boss assured that their welfare must not be undermined as they engaged in the protection of the lives and property of citizens.
In his words “I want you to take your job seriously because we are going to work hard to improve on our welfare. We are living witnesses that the President and Commander in Chief of Armed Forces have graciously asked that the salary of the police be reviewed even though it is taking time, it will certainly come.”
He added that policemen should not be discouraged as the pay rise will surely happen.
While urging police officers to take advantage of training and courses available to improve themselves, the IGP said that a well-trained officer is an asset not only to himself but to the nation at large. Therefore, all officers must take training and development of themselves as a matter of utmost importance and ensure that they grab every training opportunity that comes their way.
The IGP added that the Force under his leadership will provide enabling environment and necessary apparatus for quality training that will meet up with best global practices.
