Bauchi Police Foils Attempted Jail Break, Arrest Suspect

The Bauchi Police said it has arrested a suspect, Mahmud Tatimu who attempted a jail break to free his brother standing trial for terrorism case at the Bauchi Federal Prison.

This was disclosed by the newly posted Police Commissioner in the state Zaki M Ahmed at a press conference at the police headquarters Bauchi.

He said “the command following intelligence report recently foiled attempted jail break and arrested one Mal Mahmud Tatimu who had concluded plans with his accomplices to break the Bauchi Federal Prison in order to free his brother who is standing trial in a case of terrorism and remanded in prison custody.

CP Ahmed also disclosed that the command has rescued about 100 hostages including one Eng Ali Usman of DISCO company Abuja.

He added that the command has arrested 88 suspects comprising of 59 kidnappers and 14 armed robbery suspects as well as recovered arms and ammunition.

Zaki Ahmed stated further that 71 suspects were charged to court while 13 others are under investigations adding “suspects have volunteered very useful information to the police regarding their nefarious activities and level of involvements”.

He said the command has put in place crime prevention strategies which are mainly proactive noting “these strategies include visibility policing, community partnership, constant raids of black spots and criminal hideouts as well as regular foot and vehicular patrols, surveillance on uncompleted buildings and vulnerable areas”.
