Bauchi Government Declares State Of Emergency In Education

Governor of Bauchi, Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar, has declared a state of emergency on education sector as he is set up a 26 member Task Force Committee to overhaul the entire education sector in the state.

A statement signed by the Secretary to the state government, Alhaji Bello Shehu Ilalah, said committee under the chairmanship of the state Deputy Governor, Engineer Nuhu Gidado, is expected to study and review the existing policies on education in the state.

The terms of reference of the committee include monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the policies as well as giving appropriate recommendations on how to improve the education.

The members of the committee include the state commissioners of justice, local government affairs, finance and economic development. And also chairman of the education committee of the state House of Assembly.

Other members of the committee are the Permanent Secretary, state Ministry of Education, Vice Chancellor of the State University, Gadau, Rectors, Federal Polytechnic and Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic, Bauchi, Provosts College of Education Azare and College of Agriculture Bauchi as well as chairmen of the state chapters of NLC, NUT, TUC and the Joint Action Committee.

The list also includes the state chairmen of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools, State President of National Union of Bauchi State Students (NUBASS), Professor Fatima Tahir and Malam Aliyu Umar Misau.

Dr. Musa Mu’azu Badara, Mrs. Adama Shu’aibu and Comrade Yelwa Abdullahi, while Malam Ibrahim Boyi Mutakallim and Hajia Asabe Pate are also on the list.

The statement said the Taskforce committee has eight weeks within which to complete its assignment and submit its report.
