Bauchi Government Confirms Bird Flu In Ten Poultry Farms By Masoyi Lusa, Bauchi

The State Ministry of Animal Resources and Normadic Resettlement have confirmed that ten poultry farms were affected with Avian Influenza in the state. The Commissioner overseeing   the Ministry, Alhaji Umar Sale Giade disclosed this during a sensitization visit to Toro local government on the outbreak of the disease known as Bird Flu.
Alhaji Umar Sale stated that so far, three local government areas of Katagum, Bauchi and Toro local government areas have been infected by the disease.
According to the commissioner  seven poultry farms were reportedly affected with the disease in Toro local government,  stressing that five hundred and fifty eight various species of bird were affected in the seven farms in the local government  out of which,  nine thousand – two hundred and eight were killed.
The commissioner added that Toro local government area has the highest population of poultry farms in the state due to the conducive weather and peaceful nature of the area.
Speaking earlier the Care Taker Committee Chairman Toro local government Alhaji Adamu Umar Danyaro Geji who was represented by the Head of Administration of the local government Alhaji Usman Muhammed Mashema, promised his council determination to partner with Ministry of Animal Resources and Nomadic Resettlement to fight the disease from the area.

The Chairman further commended the state government for its effort towards  enlightening  poultry farmers on the dangers of the disease.
