The Bauchi State government has banned carrying of two or more passengers by private and commercial motorcycles.
A press statement, issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ishola Michael Adeyemi and made available to newsmen in Bauchi stated that the state government has observed with dismay the practice of some operators of commercial and private motorcycles carrying two or more passengers.
It said the ban followed the prevailing security situation in the country and traffic hazards of the practice.
The statement read in parts “Motorcyclists have been banned from carrying more than one passenger. There should always be two people on a bike, consisting of the rider and one other passenger”
“The government is calling on the general public to comply with the ban which is in the general interest of the public. Security agents have been directed to enforce the ban and deal decisively with violators”
