Bauchi Assembly To Speak Hausa Language During Plenary For Easy Communication

The Bauchi State House of Assembly on Tuesday agreed to speak the Hausa language during the plenary for easy communication.

Speaker of the House, Rt Honorable Abubakar Y. Suleiman, announced this during the July 11th plenary at the Assembly complex.

During the plenary, Honorable Auwal Hassan a member representing Shira Constituency move the motion that the Hausa language should be adopted as the second language to be spoken in the house in order for honorable members to participate fully in terms of debate and another important discussion that will bring development to the good people of Bauchi State.

Hassan said that English is the official language adopted for conducting governmental and nongovernmental institutions in Nigeria and Section 97 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Order 3 Rule 8 of the Standing Orders of the Bauchi State House of Assembly 2017 provides that the proceedings and debates of the House shall be conducted in English Language, the house may conduct its business in one or more other languages spoken in the State.

He submitted that Hausa being the most popular spoken language in Bauchi, used for communication purposes by over 90% of people across the State, should be adopted in addition to English as a second official language.

The motion Seconded by Honorable Musa Wakili Nakwada a member representing Bogoro Constituency, who commended his colleague for the motion, recalling that he moved a same motion in the 9th Assembly

After the Speaker put the motion to voice vote, the House unanimously adopted it.
