Bandits Attack Makarfi Community In Kaduna, Many Persons Killed, Others Kidnapped

Suspected bandits have attacked a community in Makarfi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, leaving several residents dead and others kidnapped.

The attack reportedly happened in the early hours of Monday.

A video circulating on social media and shared on X by a user identified as Hon. Nuhu Sada, the SDP candidate for Kaduna State House of Assembly showed scenes of fear and confusion, with gunshots heard in the background and people screaming.

In one of the posts, Sada wrote: “Night of Terror in Makarfi, Zaria. This young boy watched helplessly as bandits kidnapped his grandmother. Is the North safe?”

Another video shared earlier by the same user suggested the attack was ongoing at the time.

“Reports say bandits may have attacked Makarfi, Kaduna near Zaria tonight. People are screaming and running for their lives. Our hearts go out to the community. May they stay safe,” the post read.

In one of the clips, a young boy narrated how the attackers stormed their house and assaulted members of his family before abducting his grandmother.

According to him, the gunmen hit a woman with the edge of a gun and slapped another woman in the house before taking his grandmother away.

“When they came, my grandmother asked me to give them our phones, which I did. They slapped the wife of the house and injured a woman with the edge of their gun before taking my grandmother,” the boy said in the video.

He added that the attackers left the area through the Tashan Maliki direction after the raid.

The videos also showed residents shouting and running as gunshots “rained” in the background, while a voice could be heard warning people not to move around.

As of the time of filing this report, authorities were yet to issue an official statement on the incident, including the exact number of those killed or kidnapped.
