A socio-cultural youth group known as Zaar Youth Development Association (ZAYODA), Lagos State branch is set to unveil a scholarship scheme and skills acquisition program for its kinsmen.

As contained in a press release signed and made available to newsmen by its chairman and Secretary, Comrade John Emmanuel Rica and Comrade Mbimi Sabo on Friday, the ZAYODA said that the move was an effort to fulfill its community vision of eradicating illiteracy and enhance human capacity development through education and skills developments among the youths.

“The Youths represents the strength of the society, and we therefore, wish to invite your company to the annual Youths Day and launching of her Scholarship Scheme 2023,” the statement said.

It added that the scheme seeks to provide two youths with full scholarships to study in any of the universities in Bauchi State.

“So far, the scheme has three students under her sponsorship since its establishment in 2021, and the payments for their tuition fees have been effective through the support from willing individuals who believed in the Scheme”, ZAYODA noted.

The statement further. Noted that the association wishes to sustain the Scheme through a reliable and sustainable investment that yields 30% interest annually.

“We, therefore, wish to invest at least N3 million Naira to enable us to sustain the scheme in order to train our youths continually as the return on the above-mentioned amount will sum up to 900,000 annually”, the statement said.

According to ZAYODA, its target is to graduate at least 20 youths in 10 years from the year 2021 in order to reduce the dependency rate on the government and provide the youths whose parents could not afford to sponsor them in higher institutions to make their dreams realizable.

“As a community, we are a collective and an indivisible family united with a goal to promote each other through a network of resources mobilization”, the statement said.

It explained further that the Scheme also provides the youths who have not yet scored their JAMB or have graduated from a higher institution but are yet to secure a meaningful Job with various skills that can help them earn a living and in turn become resourceful and helpful to our community and the society at large.

“On this, we have trained eight drivers, 23 photographers, and two tailors, and we intend to train our youths in Plumbing, Electricals, Painting, Tiling, and Plaster of Paris (POP) designs, adding that We believe that these skills are lucrative as their demand is high”, the youth group said.

While also expressing belief that when youths are financially independent and stable, the Zaar community will witness a high rate of economic growth and there will be a peaceful and conducive atmosphere for development and investments.
