The Plateau State Chairman of the Action Deocratic Party (ADP), Chief Amb. Nanyah Andrew Daman has decried the absence of ideology in Nigeria’s political parties, especially in the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) hence for over the past 20 year’s political parties that have ruled the country have not been able to prioritize the needs of the citizens.
Chief Daman made this submission while inaugurating four committees that would work towards laying the basis for a solid structure of the ADP in Plateau State, at the party’s secretariat, situated at No. 7 Dogon Karfe Jos, last week.
The committees inaugurated were that of Finance, Contact and Mobilization, Media and Publicity, as well as, Strategic Planning and Research, to be chaired by Prince Pam Dachugyang, Comrade Yusuph Dilas, Auta Danjuma and Tabitha Goselle respectively.
The chairman who said that he was highly surprised at the turn out of people in the state for registration into ADP, charged the committee members to see their assignment as an opportunity to also contribute their quota towards liberating the masses and deepening of democracy.
Chief Daman said that it is for the above reasons that the ADP was formed to entrench true democracy beginning from the party by way of entrenching internal democracy where the wish of the people would prevail.
According to him, “True democracy must revolve around the people, adding that it is for this reason that the ADP is structured in such a manner that it is people oriented. Once you are a registered member in ADP, you are a stake holder with equal status with other members irrespective of status in the society because ours is a party that is people centered.”
Adding that, “There is no “Big man” in the country that can boast of financing our party. The farmer in the village and the senator or minister of the Federal republic who has registered all have equal status and say in our party and they all qualify as delegates during our party primaries. We don’t have provision for special delegates. You can see that these are some of the major differences between our party and others”.
Chief Nanyah Daman further in part said: “The absence of ideology in political parties is of utmost concern because parties are no longer after ideas and doctrines. Political parties in the country have many similarities than differences and this has only created conflict between them for status, which has placed the masses at the receiving end since the advent of the democratic dispensation in 1999.
“There is no political party in Nigeria since 1999 including the All Progressive Congress (APC) that has offered anything special to differentiate it from others. So, all they talked about is what the ruling party is not doing for the people and used this as bait for the citizens without any clear definitions of how they intend to achieve what is inculcated in their so-called manifesto.
“As a matter of fact, some of them lack manifestos and it has become obvious that candidates contesting elections into various offices under these parties only relied in the party’s ability to rig elections for them.
“The outcome of such menace is clearly manifesting as witnessed in dilapidated infrastructure across the country despite huge amount of money budgeted for them”.
