Alleged Extra Judicial Killing, Family Petitions Custom comptroller over death of their son, demand compensation

The family of late Salisu Badamasi has petitioned the Comptroller General of Custom over an alleged extra-judicial killing of their son.

The family through their counsel Barr. Akib Idris, in the petition, is demanding for a conduct of a comprehensive investigation on the circumstances that led to the killing of their son Salisu Badamasi, who was alleged to have been killed by the men of Ogun State command of Custom service at Ogere on the 15/01/2016.

According to the petition dated 18/03/2016, the Customs men had unjustifiably after collecting Four hundred thousand Naira, from his client over a good they have earlier seized, they molested the traders coming from Lagos to Jos.

It said besides Salisu Badamasi, his co-traveller Adamu Sani was also shot injured.

The petitioners said the conduct of the Customs men was a flagrant violation of the fundamental right of the two persons.

They are also demanding for the, “punishment of those officers that had participated in the act, restrained the officers from further harassing, arresting and forceful extortion of money and co-occurrence of extra-judicial killings, without any legal justification.

“The families further demanded payment of: “the sum of five hundred million Naira as compensation to the families of Salisu Badamasi and Adamu Sani, whose innocent blood is crying for justice.

“The petitioners are also demanding that the Comptroller General should direct the refund of four hundred thousand Naira earlier extorted by men of the Custom services.

“To publish an unreserved public apology in at least two national dailies.”

they also threatened to pursue legal redress, at the end two weeks ultimatum for the Custom to comply”
