Alleged Defilement: NAPTIP’s Investigation Against Professor Stalled

An investigation by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP into the alleged defilement of a minor by a Nigerian professor based in the USA, Professor Olumuyiwa Arowosafe has been stalled for one year due to official procedure.

Although sources in NAPTIP stated that the investigating officer had since transferred the case file to the legal department for further action, no action had been taken thereafter.

The NAPTIP inquiry followed a petition by Mrs Talatu Malle to the Director General of NAPTIP, Fatima Waziri-Azi in 2023.

There was a further letter from Malle requesting the release of a copy of her complaint against Professor Olumuyiwa Arowosafe and the medical report conducted on the seven-year-old minor.

Earlier, counsel to Malle, Kingsley Nnonye, Esq requested NAPTIP to speedily conclude the investigation into the matter for the sake of the affected minor.

He wrote that after the  investigation at the school’s premises where the whole incident happened the agency has failed to commence prosecution.

When contacted, Professor Arowosafe denied the allegations of defilement of a minor, which he said was not backed with evidence, including allegations of visiting a native doctor.

He said only his lawyer could give a full brief of the matter.
