Akwanga Youths Give Abuja Electricity Distribution One Week Ultimatum To Improve, Install Pre Paid Meters Or Closes Down Operations

Youth in Akwanga Local government Area of Nasarawa state has given the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company a one week ultimatum to improve their service in the area or close down operations.

The protest was led by the Youth Wing of Mada Development Association, the youth in their multitude carrying placards such as; ‘Our mumu done do, ‘we need 24 hours power supply, install pre-paid meters or stop billing us among others.

Urging AEDC to as matter of urgency improve on their services or should shut down operations.

The protest was heralded by the current member of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Hon Kassim Mohammed.

The youth also urged the distribution company to start the installation of pre-paid meters to all its customers as well supply light for at least 18 hours per day.

Youth from Nassarawa-Eggon and Wamba Local Government Areas also join the protest, speaking during the protest; Hon.Kassim Mohammed said he has decided to join the protest in solidarity with his people against the exploitation by Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).

He described the exploitation by the company as something just too much to bear, given the fact that AEDC had given light for three hours in a day in most areas, but send bills of thousands of naira  at the end of the month.

“They only give light whenever they want to send bills, and as soon as bills are paid you would not see light again.

“This situation cannot be allow to continue so I am calling on the Federal Government to do something urgently if not the activities of this company is affecting the image of the President,” he added.

Similarly, Comrade Gyuni Umaru, National President of YWMDA, said the protest was necessitated after a complain letter written to the Headquarters of AEDC could not yield any result.

He added that they youths are given AEDC one week ultimatum to improve their service in the area of close down their offices and live the area.

“In the next one week, we want them to start the installation of pre-paid meters to all customers, supply light for at least 18 hours per day.

“We also want immediate reconnection of Wamba, Nassarawa-Eggon and Andaha that were disconnected for just no reason.

“We also want the Headquarters of AEDC to immediately transfer the Area Manager of the company in Akwanga and bring a more competent person as the present person does not relate well with customers,” he added.

He therefore said they would continue to be law abiding but they want the company to know that they can fight for their rights.

Receiving the youths in his Palace, the Chun-Mada and Chairman Traditional Council of Akwanga expressed gratitude to the youths for ensuring that the protest was peaceful.

He said that they traditional council in the area has also written severally to AEDC about the light situation in the area but nothing was done to improve the situation.

He therefore assured the youths that he would channel their grievnces to the appropriate authority for prompt action in order to avoid a situation that would led to breakdown of law and order.

Other towns in total blackout in Nasrawa state includes Doma,the headquaters of Doma Local Government of the state,impecable source confided that the community enjoy three hours electricity in thirty days.

It further revealed the community would only light if AEDC are about distributing light bills to consumers,the situation has negative impact on light users like operators of barbing saloon,welders,shopowners into selling of soft drinks and amongst others.

In Akurba community  in the outskirt of Lafia consumers of electricity expressed displeasure over the prolonged blackout experince in the inhabitant,a house wife who spoke to universalreporters247.com averred that for barely one year the community is in total darkness.

“As you can see solar is our last hope of getting power supply”.

While in Obi the headquater of Obi Local Government people of the community protested outtage of power supply,the protest started after a member of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly,Hon Keke One representing Obi One constituency stated that electricity supply is not a hiccups in Obi,but youth condemned the statement of the honorable member as inciting and fallacy.

As vast of the people maintained that the town barely one year was in total blackout.

All effort to speak to the Area Manager ,Lafia Region proved abortive.
