It was a black Thursday in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State as aggrieved workers held Acting Director Perssonel Management hostage over their three months salaries arrears.
It was a carnival of assault as the aggrieved workforce numbering over Sixty promised to disrupt the presentation of the 2021 appropriation bill by the Council chairman, Rabo Sani.
The workers expressed discontentment over the way and manner they were treated with disdain, given the Acting DPM an ultimatum of five hours to pay them their backlog of salaries even with the directive by Governor Abdullahi Sule that all Local Government staff should be paid their salaries before 31st December,2020.=
The DPM was held hostage leading to the delay in the presentation of the 2021 appropriation bill to the Legislative Council.
It took the swift intervention of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employee (NULGE) chairman, Adamu Aliyu Ogah to quell the situation as the majority of the civil servants blamed me Council for the delay.
Chairman blamed the Accountant of the Council for the delay in payment, Rabo Sani raised an eyebrow over the way and manner monies are been deducted from the source but did go to the right channel.
“Apart from the normal 15 percent deduction as statutory, a huge amount of money was deducted to augment pension and where are the monies going to ?”.
He directed the representatives of retirees at the Local Government to go to Pension Bureau to verify the monthly deduction of pension from the source as the leadership of pensioners averred that they are owing four months pension.
“Doma Local Government alone paid over N167,000,000 and where is the money going to, goto Pension Bureau or Ministry for Local Government to find out what really is happening.
As of press time, few protesters are in jubilation as they start seeing salary alerts at about 1:25 pm given the room for the presentation of the 2021 budget.
