Nigeria cruised into the quarterfinals of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a commanding 4–0 victory over Mozambique in their round of 16 encounter on Monday at the Fes Sports Complex.
Ademola Lookman gave Nigeria an early advantage, opening the scoring in the 20th minute, before Victor Osimhen doubled the lead five minutes later.
Lookman struck again shortly after the restart, netting his second goal of the match in the 47th minute, while Akor Adams sealed the emphatic win with Nigeria’s fourth goal in the 75th minute.
Nigeria had earlier enjoyed a perfect group-stage campaign, recording victories against Tanzania (2–1), Tunisia (3–2), and Uganda (3–1).
Mozambique, on the other hand, progressed to the knockout stage as one of the best third-placed teams, following a 3–2 win over Gabon, alongside defeats to Ivory Coast (0–1) and Cameroon (1–2).
