Nasarawa State governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura in a determination to end the lingering ethnic skirmishes between Egburra and Bassa in Toto Local Government of the State has promised to settle marriage expense of any of the two warring tribes.

Al-Makura while addressing Egburra at the Palace of Ohimege Opanda, Alh.Usman Abdullahi says the State readiness to pay dowry and other marriage expenses was to foster unity among the two tribes whose conflict has been existing for barely fifteen years.

The State governor opined that only intermarriage would forestall everlasting peace among Egburra and Bassa in Toto Local Government as he appealed to the warring tribes to bury their hatchet for development to thrive.

The governor said the current administration in the State would that people from that axis benefited from social amenities which good road network, addressing ecological problems, electricity supply and amongst others.

“We will do all our possible best as a responsible government to ensure Umaisha attain the status of Local Government’.

Despite the promised made Egburra tribes resisted the advocacy of the State government to encourage intermarriage.

“God forbid for intermarriage between the Bassa and our people will never hold, as at the shouted “No, no, God forbid”.

It would be recalled that the first elected governor, Abdullahi Adamu  to end the crisis from 1999 to 2003  sue for intermarriage between the two ethnic groups but to no avail even with the intervention of the then Federal Government under President Olusegun Obasanjo  whose eight years was  marred by serious political and ethnic skirmishes leading to the killing of female Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon.Maimuna Kataii by erring Egburra youth.
