  • As Screening Appeal Committee Voids His Disqualification

Even as the Senator Ibrahim Mantu led screening committee disqualified the Adamawa state Acting Governor, Umaru Fintiri from contesting the Primary election coming up in September; the Acting governor on Sunday said that he is still in the race as he said he will continue with his campaign.
Speaking on Sunday, barely 24 hours that he was disqualify from contesting, Fintiri said; “I am still in the race,’’ as he said he will continue to rally for the October election.
Speaking further Fintiri said that the issue which led to him being disqualified has been taken care of  and that the Senator Ibrahim Mantu led Screening Committee never disqualify him, adding that the coming don’t have the legal or constitutional power to take such a decision.
Solomon Kumanga the spokesman of the Acting Governor said in a statement he signed that;  “The Acting Governor is confident about his eligibility to contest because the decision not to clear him has no political or legal precedence.” Mr. Fintiri said in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Solomon Kumanga.
According to Fintiri in his statement he asked; “Where is the fairness to the man who reclaimed the party’s mandate and wiped shame from the faces of all the Adamawa Party bigwigs, who failed to do so in the first place?” he asked.
Also in another development, the Fintiri Campaign Organization, which is made up of members from the 21 local Government Areas of the state has also rejected the Acting Governor’s  disqualification by the screening committee.
Speaking the chairman of his campaign organisation Jonathan Zwingina said; “It is also to be noted that the committee that did the screening did not find any legal, technical or any misgiving on the part of our candidate whether in the PDP constitution or in the national constitution and therefore the grounds of the decision is untenable.”
Zwingina further said; “The issues raised by Mantu committee has been successfully dispelled and resolved and it is a matter for the appeal and it is a matter for the appeal committee to lay all of that to rest. We want to assure the PDP throughout the state that Fintiri campaign organization is ready for the delegate election by going into the race not only to participate but to win the race.”

Meanwhile, the Screening Election committee has voided his disqualification.
