The Imo State College of Nursing and Midwifery in Orlu LGA of Imo State is currently in a huge academic mess occasioned by gross maladministration and alleged extortion by the present Management of the institution led by the Acting Provost, Mrs. Hannah Offor.

Investigations by newsmen revealed that the Imo State-owned Nursing and Midwifery institution is currently sitting on gun powder waiting for an explosion as a result of admission racketing, extortion, and lawlessness as the students are left to their fate by the management.

News sources reliably gathered that the Ag. Provost, Mrs. Hannah Offor, has fixed the entrance examination and interview of new students for Wednesday 6th of April, while more than three hundred and sixty students (360) of the institution are classified as illegal by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria due to lack of index number.

Furthermore, news revealed that the Ag. Provost, Mrs. Hannah Offor who many argued, is not qualified to be appointed Provost has proved the argument right following the recently released results of the Final qualifying Examination for Nurses in Nigeria by Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).

According to reports, Imo State College of Nursing Sciences Orlu was rated 1.61% in the November 2021 Final Qualifying Examination set by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria as registered Sixty two (62) students of the institution were sent back to the school because they all failed their oral and practical examinations.

Investigations further showed that the result recorded in 2021 under the administration of Mrs.Hannah Offor in Imo State College of Nursing and Midwifery Orlu, is the worst ever since the establishment of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.

A Senior Staff of the institution who pleaded anonymity expressed fear over the future of the students in the institution and the forthcoming collapse of the School if immediate action is not taken against the Ag. Provost, Mrs. Offor

According to the staff, during the 2020 COVID -19 pandemic, schools were shut down by the Federal Government, the institution under the immediate past Provost of the institution, Princess Ngozi Duru made 100% in the Final Qualifying Examination set by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria with more than Eleven (11) students writing credits and three (3) students writing credits in Paper 1 and Paper-II.

The Staff further revealed that during the lockdown, the former Provost made sure that all the students had online lectures which made them excel in their NMCN final qualifying Examinations.

Based on the reports, the two conflicting examination results of the School, 2021 was the worst ever in the history of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria while November 2020 final Qualifying Examinations for Nurses was the best result recorded by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria that year.

A student of the institution who felt frustrated following the outcome of her final qualifying examination expressed regrets that after spending close to five hundred thousand Naira (500,000) and she could not pass her NMCN Final Qualifying examination.

The questions now are, what is the fate of already three hundred and sixty (360) students of the institution without an NMCN index number? What is the future of Nurses being trained in the institution as Sixty two (62) students were all sent back to the institution after they failed their final qualifying Examinations and what will be the future of over six hundred and fifty ( 650) candidates the acting Provost plans to admit on Wednesday, April 6th in a bid to extort money from the candidates, when she knew that the school has crossed its admission capacity.

According to a Source in the institution, the Ag. Provost Offor mandated over six hundred fifty candidates to pay N10,500 for an interview which they are not sure they will pass the entrance examination or is the Provost planning to admit all the applicants knowing full well that she has crossed the carrying capacity of the institution as directed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.

The Ag.Provost, Mrs.Hannah Offor has not responded to the SMS sent to her on the allegations by the time of going to press.
