Relegating Traditional Rulers Contributes To Raising Insecurity In Nigeria

The Onu Igala of Bauchi, Alh. Inuwa Abara said that relegating the traditional rulers to the background has contributed greatly to the raising of insecurity activities in all parts of the country.

 

Ibara made the assertions while speaking with journalists in Bauchi, shortly after witnessing the elections of the new leaders for the Igala Community Development Association (ICDA), who will run the affairs for the next two years under the leadership of Mr. Sunday Uchola as president.

 

He said that the traditional rulers play a vital and significant role in ensuring peace and peaceful coexistence is raining among the citizens.

 

According to him, “Only by assigning of the constitutional roles to the traditional rulers in the country will ensure and bring back the country to overcome its lingering security challenges that ravaged all parts of the Nation.

 

He added that “Today our traditional rulers were helpless as they lack power from the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria to tackle challenges arising in their respective domains.

 

Saying that “The traditional institution has a great role to play in advancing and promoting of peaceful coexistence amongst its citizens, but the institutions have been relegated down in the constitution of our land, that’s why all these problems are emanating”, he declared.

 

Ibara, also said that going back to history, everyone knows that the traditional rulers are the ones who control all the affairs in terms of making a judgment, administration as well as the custodians of the land and properties in their respective societies. But today, and now the case is different, lamenting the situation as unfortunate.

 

Besides, the Onu of Igala said he believed on the Nigerians and that Nation will soon be overcoming its present security challenges, admitting that peace, unity, and love is the only key solution to move the country forward.

 

He urges all Nigerians to be brothers keepers of one another, accept and tolerate each other irrespective of differences, nothing that no country will develop in a chaotic situation.
