The Imo State Police Command has arrested a man suspected of killing his wife and abandoning her body within the premises of a church in Owaelu, Owerri North Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect was apprehended in neighbouring Ebonyi State during a joint operation involving operatives of the Imo State Police Command and their counterparts from the Ebonyi State Police Command.
According to police, the victim’s body was discovered last Thursday after the suspect allegedly fled the scene with two of the couple’s children.
He reportedly left behind their suckling baby, who was later rescued and handed over to a trusted family member for care.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, Henry Okoye, said the arrest followed coordinated efforts by detectives from both states.
He stated that investigations were ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death and ensure that justice is served.
The police did not immediately disclose the identity of the suspect or the motive behind the alleged killing, but assured residents that the case would be thoroughly investigated.
