The Forum of All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives aspirants in Adamawa State has called for free, fair, and transparent primaries across the state ahead of the party’s 2027 elections, warning against alleged attempts to impose candidates.
In a communiqué issued at the end of its meeting ahead of the primaries scheduled for Saturday, May 16, 2026, the Forum said efforts to reach a consensus arrangement across the eight federal constituencies in Adamawa State had failed, making democratic primaries necessary.
The aspirants urged the party leadership to ensure that the exercise is conducted credibly across all 226 wards in the state to enable the emergence of popular and electable candidates capable of securing victory for the APC in the general elections.
The Forum also alleged that some aspirants had been pressured by certain state party executives to withdraw from the race.
According to the communiqué, those involved reportedly cited “orders from above,” allegedly linking the directives to the Governor of Adamawa State and, in some cases, mentioning the National Security Adviser.
The group further expressed concern over claims of a so-called “Presidential List” containing preferred candidates for the eight federal constituencies in the state.
The aspirants argued that any attempt to impose candidates who are “unpopular or not sellable” could weaken the party’s chances in the 2027 general elections.
Condemning what it described as possible interference in the selection process, the Forum warned that undermining internal democracy could negatively affect the APC’s electoral fortunes, referencing the party’s performance in the 2019 and 2023 elections in Adamawa State.
The aspirants appealed to the party leadership, including the state governor, the National Security Adviser, and APC officials at various levels, to ensure that the primary election process is conducted strictly in line with the party’s constitution and established laws.
The Forum also called on party supporters to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding despite rising political tension in the state, expressing confidence that the party would address the concerns raised before the primaries.
The communiqué was signed by the Forum of APC Adamawa State House of Representatives Aspirants.
