99 Percent Of Journalists In Nasarawa State Are Good To Go-NUJ Chairman Tells Commissioner Of Police

The Nasarawa State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Salihu  Muhammed Alkali has affirmed that 99 Percent of practicing Journalists in the State are good to go.

He said he has confidence in the majority of practitioners in the State.

The State Council Chairmen gave the hint when the State Council of NUJ paid the Commissioner of Police a courtesy call at the State Command.

Alkali congratulated the Commissioner of Police, Umar Shehu Nadada over his elevation as the new Commissioner of Nasarawa State.

“Nasarawa State is lucky to have Nadada as the Commissioner of Police”.

Adding the appointment of Umar Shehu Nadada as Commissioner of Police is a good thing for the State, especially a person who knows the terrain more and far better.

The Chairman assured Nadada of an unflinching cooperation him to succeed, He explained to the commissioner that despite the holistic approach to making the State safe for all, there are pockets of insecurity in Toto axis.

The Chairman expressed concern over the emergency Fulani Vigilante group in the State, Pleading with the Commissioner of ti take urgent measures on the issues, If left unchecked will plunge the State into crisis

The Commissioner of Police, Umar Shehu Nadada while responding thanked the NUJ for the visit.

Saying the Police will not succeed with a synergy with the Nigeria Union of Journalists.

“We have to work together for the sake of prosperity, rapid and prudent progress of Nasarawa State”.

Reacting to the speech of NUJ Chairman, Comrade Salihu Muhammed Alkali, He said the Fulani Vigilante group is on its own.

Stating further that Miyetti Allah Cattle Hore is not a recognized vigilante group by law.

Speaking over the pockets of killings in Toto Local Government of the State, The Commissioner, however attested that there was an outbreak of Skirmishes in Toto Local Government between Ebira and Bassa extraction.

Shehu Nadada in addition averred that is doing every possible best to strengthen the anti-kidnapping unit of the Command.

“We in Nasarawa Command are committed to strengthening the anti-kidnapping unit of the Command by expanding our coverage which has been just a unit”.

He further buttressed that the State Command will have more than four units, including the Akwanga unit, Karu, Keffi, Nasarawa, and Awe respectively.

Calling on Journalists to always cross-check their reports through the Police Public Relations Officer or his office before going to the press.

He gave the assurance that as the 28th Commissioner of Police who is conversant with the State will ensure that improves on the template put in place by his predecessors.

The Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the NUJ, Isaac Okpoju in a vote of thanks congratulated the new Commissioner of Police.

He revealed that Ombi One, College of Agriculture, NSUK, Lafia campus is among the areas most attacked during the weekend.

According to the Commissioner, sir, for some of us at Ombi one, that is Polytechnic, is not easy, especially during weekends, when the men of the underworld attack tenants unabated.

He confirmed that the series of attacks is mostly on Fridays to Saturdays from 2:00 am to 3:00 am.
