720 Hours For Elected Council Officials To Go—Nasarawa Assembly

The chairman House committee on Information Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Honorable Makpa Maka has affirmed that there is no going back on the tenure of council chairmen in the state.

Mala while clearing the air on the cacophony surrounding the tenure of council chairmen and councillors buttressed that the Assembly has no intention to extend the tenure of office for the present crop of elected officials in the state.

“On the tenure of Local Government chairmen and councillors is a straight forward issue because the 2009 law is our guide as this law approved two years for elected council officials”.

Hon.Makpa Mala hinted that this will only be achieved through the amendment of 2009 law which he said is yet to be amended.

“And to amend the existing 2009 law ” Though the constitution warrant that if such would happen the House would move a bill within which thirty days the Governor will assent to the bill which make it a full fletched law.

The chairman House committee on Information Makpa Mala while commenting on the expiration described the Transitional Management Committee chairmen as unconstitutional.

In a related development,The chairman of Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission ,Dr Moddibo has identified paucity of fund as a major challenge derailing the commission from exhibiting it social responsibility.

Moddibo gave the disclosure when he appeared before the state House of Assembly, He however advocated for the use of card reader in the forthcoming Local Government election.

The chairman said the use of card reader will ensure credible electoral process

Dr.Moddibo advice the lawmakers to be specific on the tenure of elective council officials, Adding that absence of specific tenure of office contributes to the woo’s of third tier of Government.
