63, 000 Pregnant Women, Vulnerable Persons Are Beneficiaries Of NSIO-HUP In Plateau

The office of the Vice President on National Social Investment office Household Uplifting Programme(NSIO-HUP) in Nigeria through its national coordinator Dr. Temitope Sinkaiye has said ,at least no fewer than 62 ,000 pregnant women including the most vulnerable poor Nigerian who can’t access the basic needs of life are amongst the beneficiaries of the Federal Government poverty-reducing social investment program.

Dr. Sinkaiye during an interview revealed this to journalists during the interface with the state stakeholders in the health sector and Local government beneficiaries in Jos.

She commended the Plateau state Governor Simon Lalong through the Executive adviser on NSIO-HUP by rating the state high amongst the 9 states in phases 1, 2 and 3 that are the benefiting states.

According to her, Plateau state government has demonstrated her readiness towards promoting the household national cash transfer, NCTO, to reduce poverty which the country is one of the world’s poorest countries among the nations in the world.

She disclosed that the federal introduces the program to improve the welfare of the rural populace to tackle poverty by ensuring that the health status also through enlightenment campaign and training of staff to address this menace in bridging gaps between the poor and the rich in the state.

Sinkaiye emphasized that the 5,000 monthly allocations are aimed at addressing the plight of consumption need of the household, secondly, those beneficiaries are also being trained on the human capacity to help wipe out completely the over-dependency poverty in society

Adding she said; “these pregnant mothers are also provided with the knowledge on domestic maintenance, health hygiene and management of the meager resources at their disposal so that they can’t go back to smile poverty against.

Sinkaiye told the media that the women who benefited, they can feed their children sent them to school comfortably and take care of them in capacity building on service delivery in the rural area

She raised the alarm that the issues of insecurity and logistics remain one of their major setbacks in trying to reach out to remote villages that vulnerable to the poverty level.

Dr. Sinkaiye said the staff as adequately given enough training for them to discharge the function effectively.

In her opening speech, Plateau state focal person, Dr. Sumaye Hamza reiterated that the state Governor Simon Lalong has done credibly well in realizing counterpart funding to the state coordinator office to her proud beneficial of the top phase of the program which gave them the advantage to be included in 9 benefiting states.

She commended the Federal Government for reconsidering the state as one of the beneficiary states rising to 62,000 thousand persons are now benefitting from the program.

Dr. Hamza stated today is very important to the state chapter that positioned them as among the 9 states selected which made us Lucky and privilege to redesign policy that enhanced and improved the living conditions of the grassroots people.

She explained further that the state House committee chairmen’s grace the occasion and they have a pending bill to push for better living conditions of our rural people.

Mrs. Dr. Hamza stressed that over 43,000 pregnant women were captured as beneficiaries of the stipend of 5,000 households across the 17 Local Government councils in Plateau state.
