5 Years After Losing Accreditation: Nasarawa Polytechnic Lafia Commences HND Programs, Secures Accreditation of All Courses

The Nasarawa State Polytechnic Lafia after losing accreditation of all courses for the period of five years is to commence Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes soonest.

 

The Registrar of the institution, Mukhtar S. Wakeel, gave the hint during a briefing with selected Journalists,he averred that all courses that loose it’s accreditations due to hand in-glove of the former headship of the Institution needed were granted accreditation.

 

He maintained over 20 programs run at Diploma level secured all the accreditation while new courses had also been accredited by the National Board for Technical Education.

 

The Registrar further said the institution has since commenced sales of admission forms.

 

He reeled out the Higher National Diploma  courses to be run to include.

Public Administration, Accountancy

Estate Management

Leisure and Tourism Management

Business Administration/ Management

Science Laboratory Technology (Microbiology) and Computer Science.

 

According to the registrar, the new HND  courses were to complement the existing National Diploma courses ran by the institution since its existence.

 

He commended Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, the council chairman of the school, Dr Sani Mohammed Bako, Sarkin Karshi and the management of the institution for helping it to secure accreditation of all its courses.

 

Wakeel, said the institution has met all the requirements and it has the manpower to run the new HND courses recently approved by NBTE.

 

On security of students, the registrar said “We have the polytechnic/community relations committee, including all the security agencies, we use to meet time to time, to discuss on how to secure the institution and the host community”.

 

The Institution in the last five years loose accreditation under the headship of Dr.Silas Gyar whose leadership was marred by monumental fraud running into millions of naira.

 

With the huge amount of money realised as Internally Generated Revenue running into N400 to N450 million annually under Gyar the school was not able to account for the IGR as from the years he steer the mantle of leadership.

 

It was also reliably gathered that under the then management, everything was in quandary.
