At least no fewer than 36 million of people living with disabilities across the world especially in sub-Sahara Africa are vulnerable to abject poverty.
The Executive Chairman Plateau State Disability Right Commission, Mr. James David Lalu has decried over the disappearance of people living with disabilities bill and their plight in Nigeria including no availability to access quality life.
Speaking in an exclusive interview on the International Day of people living with disabilities around the globe in Jos, he appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari not to forfeit his electioneering campaign promise of signing into law the right of people living with disabilities bill law so as to protect them against violence, poverty and all-inclusive government of development.
Lalu stressed that 17 years of non-passage of people living with disabilities bill by Nigeria commencing from Former President Obasanjo regime to Yar’Adua has continued to give them serious concern as the society discriminates against them.
According to him, he said, “our members are faced with the challenges of funding during electioneering campaign in Plateau state where its cripple their aspirations to vie for elective position in Nigeria.
Lalu commended Governor Simon Lalong for passing disabilities commission bill into law where 20 states have keyed in.
