247 Illegal Immigrants Arrested In Yola

The Nigerian Immigration Service has arrested more than 247 illegal immigrants in Yola, the immigrants who were arrested in an operation code named ‘Operation Flush’ aimed at flushing out illegal and troublesome migrants who enter the country illegally.

The Adamawa State Comptroller of the service, Mr Ubi Ikpi Nkanu who disclosed this in an interview said the operation is to fish out those who have entered the country illegally and are hiding in some of the border Local Governments of the State.

He said the Nigerian Immigration Service has gone into synergy with other sister security agents like the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police, Department of State Security Services, Nigeria Civil Defense Corps, and Nigerian Custom service to embark upon this operation which in all the 21 Local Governments of Adamawa state.

Mr. Ubi Ikpi Nkanu, revealed that, “The essence of the operation is to rid Adamawa of undesirable elements who are fomenting trouble in state who have slipped into the country unnoticed because of the expansive borders, secondly, those who are found without relevant papers are made to update them if their papers expired while those deported were those who don’t have any document and have exceeded the ECOWAS requirement of three months”

“If they sneak into the country illegally the Comptroller General David Paradang has introduced an ingenious programme called Border Corps which enable us to keep a tap on all illegal immigrants who come in illegally”.

Mr. Ubi Ikpi Nkanu called on the people of Adamawa state to keep an eye on the foreigners and know what they are doing so that security would not be taken for granted.

He said operatives of the Nigerian Immigration Service are at every border monitoring the movement of unknown faces who are strangers around the community.

He urged Nigerian to keep their eyes wide open with the current security challenges in the country about nefarious elements who comes in to cause security bleaches.
