21 People Die In Motor Accident As Bridge On Gwaram Basirka Road In Jigawa Collapses

Twenty-one persons have been killed and one injured after a bridge on the Gwaram/Basirka road in Jigawa State collapsed.
The Deputy Governor, Alhaji Umar Namadi, who visited the scene confirmed the incident to journalists on Sunday.
According to him, the identification of the victims has started.
He explained that the corpses whose identities cannot be ascertained will be moved to a mortuary in Dutse the state capital.
Our reporter in Dutse has visited the scene and find out that the accident occurred at 0600hrs of Sunday involving one hummer bus with registration no FKY 406 ZA Gombe state, conveying 18 passengers from Kano State to Adamawa State and a Canter lorry with registration number not found, conveying 3 passengers’ destination not known yet, fell into broken culvert full of water.
The Police source explained that the bodies were evacuated to Basirka hospitals and the medical doctor on duty confirmed the death of 21 people while one Simon Chinapi aged 26 of Mubi Adamawa State survived the accident.
The statement added that Commissioner of Police Jigawa State Police Command, CP Aliyu S Tafida in the company of AC_Ops, DPO, Gwaram and other officers have visited the scene and directed a prompt and investigation into the incident.
Our reporter found out that the victims were returning from military recruitment after their failure of recruitment exam to Gombe state and meet their untimely death as a result of their vehicle submerged in water along Basirka-Gwaram road in Jigawa state due to the bridge collapse.
