2019: PDP Chair Denies Alleged N2 Million Bribe To Endorse Reps’ Aspirant

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State, Obong Paul Ekpo has denied allegations that he received N2 million bribe to endorse one of the aspirants to contest the Abak Federal Constituency seat in the 2019 general elections.

Ekpo had raised Aniekan Umanah’s hand at a stakeholders meeting organised by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) youths  from Abak and Ukanafun Federal constituencies to honour governor Udom Emmanuel and his wife, an act some people misconstrued to be an endorsement.

Although Ekpo could not respond to the allegation because all calls to him were not responded to, the party’s Publicity Secretary in the State, Iniobong Ememobong dismissed the allegation as “a plot by some mischief makers to gain cheap political point”.

“The party Chairman, Obong Paul Ekpo has not collected N2 million for the party to endorse anybody. If the party has endorsed anybody, there is not going to be any contest. All the aspirants have support groups and any group has the right to declare support and endorse their aspirants.

“The party has nobody in mind and has not presented anybody as its choice, so people should disregard unfounded allegations coming out from the rumour mill, especially in this political time”, he stressed.

Ememobong explained that the PDP in the State would follow all due processes to ensure that better and popular candidates emerged to take the party to the polls in 2019.
