The FCT Police Commissioner, Wilson Inalegwu has charged traditional Rulers and opinion leaders in the six Area Councils of the FCT to always fish out potential trouble makers within their domain who could be nursing plans to unleash mayhem during the 2015 general Election.
The Commissioner gave the charge at the flag-off of the Federal Capital Territory Administration program on Security in the 14 Chiefdoms of the Territory on Thursday, 04/11/2014 with the theme ‘’mobilization and sensitization of FCT Residents towards community policing’’, organized in conjunction with the Area Council Services Secretariat of the FCT.
The FCT Police Boss told the gathering which had in attendance traditional Rulers, some Chairmen of the Area Councils and representatives of the Minister of the FCT, Senator Bala Muhammed and the Minister of State, FCT, that the FCT Police Command has adopted the community oriented policing strategy with stakeholders as partners in ensuring peace in the territory.
“You are our frontline warriors in effecting functional policing of the territory and its environs. You know those people whose lifestyles have suddenly changed within your communities. Feel free to report some of such sudden change to a DPO nearest to you”. He further implored them to be vigilant. He stressed that “crime prevention is not about use of guns, but about reporting trends and behaviors observed as strange to the appropriate quarters”.
Present at the event was the ONNA OF ABAJI, Alhaji Adamu Yunusa Baba who admonished concerned authorities in the FCT to do all within their powers to reduce poverty in the Territory.
The Abaji Monarch who lamented that poverty level in the Territory is growing, also advised the FCT Police Boss to endeavor to visit the six Area Councils and hold consultation with the stakeholders.
