Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa state in spite of the stern warning to embark on strike action by the Joint Union of Tertiary institutions (JUNSTI) if the governor tampers with their consolidated salary scale by reviewing it downward, has slashed the salary.
The governor has let the cat out of the bag by saying the slashing of workers salary affect all the working class in the state which he listed the Judiciary, legislative and all inclusive.
Al-Makura said the downward review of workers salary would not thwart with the new national minimum wage act.
As he maintained that the deduction would affect political appointees, lecturers of tertiary institutions as well, he disclosed that no civil servant in the state will earn below the new national minimum wage.
He promised that the decision to review the salary downward was to address the basic needs of the masses with the lean federal grant and assured the civil servants their salary be review again if the economy improves.
A cabinet member in the state who pleaded anonymity confided that the decision was a unilateral decision taken by the governor to frustrate appointees and the civil servants being the engine room of government businesses.
“While considering the skyrocketing of prices of commodities in the market, a governor would take such a dangerous decision, I will not continue with this government, adding they are yet to receive an official vehicle”
