The Founder of Beautiful Gate Handicapped People Center in Plateau State, Barr. Ayuba Burki Gufwan has disclosed that no fewer than sixteen thousands (16,000) persons living with disabilities across the 19 northern States of Nigeria have benefited from free wheelchairs, white canes.
Speaking during the second base of 2017 presentation of wheelchairs at the headquarters opposite Senior Staff Quarters Gate Permanent site University of Jos, Gufwan expressed his outright determination to assist persons with disabilities in Nigeria.
He said, as victim of poliomyelitis he has the passion to assist those suffering from polio, spinal cord injuries, stroke victims, and handicap and paralyze victims who are traumatized in the society to pick up challenges of living.
According to him, the plight of his colleagues who are traumatized, handicap and paralyze in the society continue to suffer untold hardship but appeal to state and federal government to provide help to by engaging them on productive venture.
He said about six thousands of his beneficiaries have went back to school ,while 4,000 registered to be engage in all manner of trading to assist their families .
Gufwan stated that two blind students and one other disable student of the university of Jos who are from Adamawa state were given white canes to help them navigate their way in the night to provide signals to upcoming vehicle .
He explained further revealed that the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities is an international human rights treats of the united Nations intended to protect the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities.
He pointed out Federal republic of Nigeria is parties to the Convention are required to promote, protect, and ensure the full enjoyment of human rights of persons with disabilities and ensure that they enjoy full equality under the laws.
Ayuba Gufwan has served as the major catalyst in the global movement from viewing persons with disabilities as objects of charity, medical treatment and social protection towards viewing them as full and equal members of society, with human rights.
Gufwan said; “It is also the only UN human rights instrument with an explicit sustainable development dimension were the first human rights treaty of the third millennium”.
He explained further that free wheelchairs ,white canes and Cruces donations to persons with disabilities in Nigeria is a free will donation to help them function effectively .
Ayuba Gufwan said, the ideas behind establishing the organization was since 1999 for him to provide succour to polio, stroke, accident victims today we are preparing over 200 beneficiary who are to enjoy our western wheelchairs to ease their movement.
The organization also gave 200 level students ,Miss Gidiya Simon ,Christina Fedelis and Talatu Jedial are victims circumstances of live but were all ready to confront it.
One the disable person, Mr Bulus Shanding says, mobility aides is one of the major challenges facing persons with disabilities in Nigeria, we expect support from spirited individuals out there to render assistant to persons with polio ,spinal cord injuries stroke .
Shanding said article 19 of united Nations convention on the right of persons with disabilities which has to do with independent of living so having disability one can move freely and live independently .
He said ,the first is to encourage by united convention and live can only belief if one can move around find out many injured person can’t move because nothing to aides them exercise freely.
He reminded the general public that those suffering from disabilities they will not go out to achieve something but depend on them in meeting their needs.
