14 Passengers Burnt Beyond Recognition In Kwara Auto Crash

Fourteen persons yesterday burnt beyond recognition in a fatal accident that occurred when a tanker and trailer colluded at Ogbomosho-Jebba road in Ilorin, also other fourteen persons sustained different form of burnt wounds.

Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC) in Kwara State, Mrs Mary Wakawa while confirming the incident said; “one of the heavy duty vehicles veered off its lane and collided with the other. This was around 5am”, she said.

“Both vehicles went on flame, 13 died on the spot while one died in the hospital. We rushed 14 injured passengers with severe burns to University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, (UITH). Already, with the support of the Kwara State Transport Management Agency,(KWARTMA), we had evacuated the wreck.”

Speaking further Mrs. Wakawa, advised road users against excessive speed, night driving and driving exhaustion, also added that 13 charred bodies of the victims have been given mass burial.

According to her the accident is due to tiredness as she hinted further that; “our drivers should stop long driving over night. They need rest to avoid human errors on the roads.”
