12 Teams Secure Second Round Places At FIBA World Cup Qualifiers

Twelve countries from across the Americas, Asia and Europe are through to the Second Round of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Qualifiers.

According to FIBA’s official website, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Dominican Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Iran, Kazakhstan, the Philippines, Serbia and Venezuela have all progressed to the World Cup Qualifiers Second Round.

The Second Round consists of three windows and is expected to take place between September and November 2018, and culminating in February 2019.

“The third window (June 25-July 3, 2018) of the First Round is still crucial to these teams as results of every single game are carried over to the Second Round,” a statement on the website reads.

“All regional Qualifiers for China 2019 see three teams from each group advance to the next phase,” it continued.

Results from the Americas indicate that the Dominican Republic dominated Virgin Islands 113-85 to stay undefeated with a 4-0 record.

They are joined in the second round by Brazil, who also maintained a perfect record by beating Chile in front of a packed 10,550 Goiânia Arena.

Canada and Venezuela also advanced with victories that improved their records to 3-1.

In the Asian Qualifiers, Australia are the only team so far to boast of a perfect record. However, Iran, Kazakhstan and the Philippines joined them through to the next phase after moving their marker to 3-1.

Results from Europe shows that France, Germany and Greece all coasted to unassailable 4-0 marks in their respective groups in the European Qualifiers.

Serbia in Group G recorded an improved 3-1 result to book a place along with the trio.

In the African Qualifiers, no team has secured a place in the Second Round yet, as they have so far played only three of their six First Round games.
