100 Youths In Plateau Trained On Peace Management By Yakubu Busari,Jos

One Hundreds youths in Plateau state have been   drawn from the four volatile local government areas of Jos North, Jos South, Riyom and Barkin Ladi were charged to imbibe the culture of tolerance and guide against the “religionalization of politics” so that the fragile peace in the State is not scuttled.

Christian and Muslim youths in Plateau State have been sensitized on the need to eschew violence especially before, during and after the 2015 general elections.

Addressing the youths at the Youth Centre, Dadin Kowa, Jos, the organizers of the event, Imam Mohammed Ashafa and Pastor James Wuye of Inter-Faith Mediation Centre, Kaduna urged them by their actions to improve on the level of peace attained in the State.

According to the duo who spoke separately, “The programme is about the sensitization of youths on human rights, religious freedom, early warning and early response system.

“As the 2015 general elections are at the corner, we need to caution these youths who have been the foot soldiers for political thuggery, rigging and intimidation not to allow themselves to be used for violence.

“We are also building their capacity to eschew electoral violence, religious intolerance with emphasis on guiding them against the politicization of religion and religionization of the political processed.”

They maintained the meeting will help the youths in self discovery and the concept of inclusiveness, promoting community spirit and spirit of forgiveness so that they do not get involved in the issue of misuse of religion in politics.

They further charged the youths to have faith and hope as all will be well with the country despite the current challenges.
