A least 10 students were shot by security  following the two day demonstration embarked upon by the Students of the University of Jos, the Management of the University of Jos Tuesday announced the temporary shut down of academic activities in the Institution.
In Public Statement   issued by the Registrar of the University, Jilli-Dandam, D. Esq said the decision to close down the University was arrived at the Tuesday Management meeting.
According to the statement, “the harsh but mandatory action is aimed at forestalling an unpalatable circumstance that might result to breakdown of law and order.
“On Monday, the 24th of November, 2014 the students of the University of Jos held  a Peaceful demonstration against certain issues raised. The management met and issued a release assuring students and members of the University community and the general public to disregard claims that the Institute plans to increase school charges in the University of Jos.  Members of the University  Community especially students, should please disregard the rumours peddled around by some disgruntled elements that Management intends to review school charges”.
Today, Monday, the 25th of November the students again mobilized themselves and blocked Bauchi road campus burning tires on the major roads.
“And in order to avoid the escalation of the situation, the management met this morning and decided that the school be closed down till further notice.  Students are hereby directed to vacate the university hostels on or before 2pm”.
In their protests Monday, the Students claimed were protesting over the refusal of the management of the institution to reverse the increase in levies.
The President of the Student Union Government, Abel Nok Du, said the students were protesting the increase in levies.
Du said: “We are calling for the removal of N10,000 development levy from our school fees payment.
“We are also calling for the reduction of N25,000 acceptance fees for admission.
“As I’m talking to you now, most of our properties have been destroyed as a result of us standing in the gap between the students and the school authorities.”
