The 1 GAME Campaign will on Monday, September 2, unveil the 1 Book – 1 Pen project in Lagos to help cater for millions of school children in Nigeria.
Speaking in Lagos on Friday, 1 GAME founder, Philip Obaji, said the 1 Book – 1 Pen project was aimed at addressing some of the challenges vulnerable children face while in school, particularly as it has to do with affording a book and a pen.
“There’s a huge challenge some of our children in school face today. They can’t afford a book or a pen, even as cheap as it is. Many parents don’t care about the plight of their children in school. But we do and that’s why we are acting.
“A book and a pen are the most important tools children need in school. There can’t be formal education without them. As I speak, there are millions of children in school without a book and a pen,” Obaji said.
Obaji added that the 1 GAME campaign intends to raise 30 million exercise books and pens through public donations, and called on every individual to participate.
“Our aim will be to raise 30 million exercise books and ball pens. That figure is obviously enough to go round the 11 million children we are campaigning to see in school.
“It’s a big campaign. Maybe the biggest we’ve seen in education in this country. Beginning from Monday, we expect everyone who can to donate at least 1 Book, 1 Pen, because every child needs 1 Book, 1 Pen.
The 1 Book – 1 Pen project will officially begin on Monday after it is unveiled at Chocolat Royale, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Public donations will be received in all Cool, Wazobia and Nigeria Info FM stations in Abuja, Kano, Lagos and Port Harcourt; 1 GAME campaign offices in Calabar and Abuja; and all 36 State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) offices in Nigeria.
